- More than twenty years ago, a very talented young artist Shen Jiawei came to Sydney. His first job was a portrait drawing artist at Darling Harbour, for around $20 a portrait drawing. Right now, he is a one of the most well recognized artist in Australia and China. One of his major artwork auctioned in 2008 for one and half million Australian Dollars. It is certain that the price of his work will grow rapidly as the Economy of China and Australia grows. Not only Shen Jiawei left a great impression for the upper class Chinese aged around 45 and above, and also is leaving a huge and bright mark in Australian Modern Art History. More than thirty years ago, Chen Yifei , left Shanghai for New York. His first job was a portrait drawing artist for as little as 8 US Dollars. Look at now, any of his paintings easily worth well over ten million dollars, any of his drawings also worth a big fortune.
John Chen as an art student in the early 80’s, had the impression of Chen Yifei being the most famous in Southern part of China, the best for his painting of female, while Shen Jia wei being the best for his painting of male, and the most famous in Northern part of China. He knew personally with Chen Yi fei , and met Shen Jiawei and as such an honor worked shoulder to shoulder with him for quite a few years.
Both Chen Yifei and Shen Jiawei were born in Shanghai. And then there was a little brother born in Shanghai as well, John Chen.

Where are we?
Johnchen Gallery is located in Level2, Queen Victoria Building, one of the most glorious building in the centre of Sydney city.
When you walk into the building, just get to level 2, we are in the middle, right next to the grand piano.
